The 2017 Gene Scott Trophy - IC USA vs. The Bahamas IC

Picture
Gene Scott was a well known and respected tennis personality worldwide who apart from being a top USA and world player was instrumental in many aspects of developing the game including his own “Tennis“ magazine and founding The Kremlin Cup. Gene was a strong supporter of The IC Movement and instrumental in the founding of The Bahamas IC where he had a home at The Lyford Cay Country Club.

So it was felt appropriate to have a match between The IC’s of USA and The Bahamas to commemorate his tennis legacy. This now alternates annually between venues in the USA and The Bahamas.

The latest event was held in Florida in January 2017 at the excellent facility which “Tennis Great “ Dick Stockton manages. Unfortunately, Dick was unable to play himself because of an injury but was a gracious host. The Bahamas took a team of twelve including several younger members. There were some excellent and enjoyable matches which resulted in an overall win for The Bahamas - perhaps helped because it had on average the younger team! There was an interesting last evening at the largest winter horse show jumping arena in the USA where we could celebrate our victory and watch the horse jumping action while enjoying dinner with our USA IC friends.

The next Gene Scott Trophy will be held in The Bahamas in 2018 - probably at The Lyford Cay Club where Gene had been a member.
