IC North American Junior Challenge (2013)
After an exciting final match with Mexico, the USA has emerged as the winner of the last regional IC Junior Challenge held in The Bahamas. There was a great final day match between Renata Zarazua of Mexico and Ursue Arconanad (USA) which Ursue won after saving match points. Both are top 100 ranked 18 & under juniors although still 16 & under. The USA will join Japan, Argentina, Italy, South Africa and host Great Britain in the worldwide finals at Wimbledon in the last week of July 2014. In second place was Mexico, with Barbados third and The Bahamas fourth. Throughout the event there was an excellent display of tennis and good sportsmanship in the IC tradition of “hands across the net, friendship across the ocean”. A successful mini tennis clinic was held for underprivileged children in which junior participants acted as coaches and seemed to enjoy as much as the participants. It even ended with the Barbados and USA junior “coaches” deciding they wanted to challenge each other to their own mini tennis match! (click here for more information & photos) |

IC Doubles Week Competition (2013)
After a week of spectacular weather, the finals of the IC Doubles Week Competition was played in blustery conditions with low clouds amid some sputtering rain on Friday. But all matches finished with the United States taking 1st place with their 3-2 victory over The Bahamas. After losing both the Senior and Junior Men's Doubles, the Bahamian Women's Doubles team of Dyphany Mortier and Susan Kimball, saved 2 match points in the 3rd set tiebreak to win 12-10 to give the Bahamas a chance to win with victories in the 2 Mixed Doubles matches. Captain John Antonas switched things around with Susan Kimball and himself playing and winning the senior mixed but the American team of Gil and Teresa Schuerholz proved to be too strong for Dyphany Mortier and Mas Kimball and thereby sealed the victory for the IC of the USA.
